Non UK Doctors
Moving to a new country can be scary at the best of times. Talk to a Doctor.co.uk aims to help you in making the move as stress free as possible.
We have tried to answer some of your most frequently asked questions in this section. We have also included some useful tips.
The first thing that you will need to address is Permission to work in the UK.
Registration with the General Medical Council
All doctors working in the UK must be registered with the General Medical Council. Medical qualifications from all EU Universities are recognised by the GMC and registration is merely a formality. You can contact them at www.gmc-uk.org. Doctors with qualifications from other countries should first check with the GMC, to ensure that their qualifications are recognised in the UK.
Registration requirements have changed for all doctors who have qualified outside of the European Union (EU). Please consult the GMC for further details.
Professional Insurance
Working in the National Health Service does not require insurance, but the private healthcare sector does. Check with your provider (e.g. MDU or MPS) to find out whether or not your cover is valid is the UK.
